As i mentioned in my CREATE A SUCCESSFUL PERSONAL TRAINING CAREER online courses , free lance personal trainer is one of the career option in personal training . BUT ,
DO YOU HAVE ENOUGH MONEY SAVED TO BE A FREE LANCE PERSONAL TRAINER IN MALAYSIA ?
This is not a financial planning post . I am sharing a step by step system that i use , to transit from a employed trainer to a self employed trainer .
This system is a modified version . The system that i used before is kinda screw me up , and i do not want you to waste time on doing the wrong things , and i want you start earning right away .
#1 THE BUSINESS MIND SET
You are now running a personal training business . You need to think and act like one . You no longer have support from the company , like you were in a commercial gym . It is now on you . It sounds scary , well , it it scary , if you dint not plan things ahead . Get your business plan up , marketing and sales strategy done .
Business Things That You Need To Think About :
- You need to calculate how many clients you need to support your living
- Which social media platform that you going to choose to promote your training services ? ( i recommend you to stick with max 3 platform , more than that , you will loss focus )
- Which niche markets that you want to target ?(female weight loss , muscle building , sport performance coach )
- How are you going to market your services ? (blog post , facebook ads , reference )
YOU ARE IN A BUSINESS NOW , THINK LIKE A BUSINESSMEN/WOMEN
#2 CALCULATE YOUR LIVING COST
YOU need to have a clear numbers for this , if not , you are going to suffer down the road .
Lets have a look at the typical minimum spending of a Malaysian .
Criteria : Single , no house , no car .
a) Food – RM 1000
b) Petrol (parent car) – RM 400
c) Insurance – RM 250
d) Parent – RM 150
e) Toll -RM 150
f) Rental -RM 400
g) Utilities -RM 200
h) Miscellaneous -RM 200
Total Spending a month = RM 2750
So , you need to make sure that you have enough clients , to cover this for you .
#3 FIND A PLACE
Another thing that i find it quite challenging is looking for a place to train my clients .
All commercial gyms DO NOT allow free lance trainer .
So , other options will be training client , at those walk in pay per entrance’s gym . But most of them is not very well conditioned , unless your client do not mind than is ok .
Make sure you give them a call(gym) , and ask about , do they allow freelance trainer at their gym before bringing your client in .
Some freelance gym for your reference :
If you are training at Subang , Redline gym allow freelance trainer .
Another good options is apartment gym . If you client is staying in apartment/condo , then you should be fine , as most of the apartment/condo has good gym now .
Park is another good options . But sometime i find it quite disturbance , as people keep coxk staring at me when i train my client .
Home gym . You can also ask you client to train at your place . You need to invest abit on exercise equipment and tools .
If you know any gym that allow free lance trainer please comment below ya .
#4 GET YOUR CLIENTS FIRST
When i was working in a commercial gym , i have around 30 plus active clients . 6 months before i quit the gym to work as a freelance trainer , i inform all of my clients , that i plan to start my own pt business . From there , i know how many clients will support and continue with me when i start up my business .
#5 GET THE MONEY IN FIRST (VERY IMPORTANT !!!)
Please listen here carefully , get the money from your clients first .
When i informed my clients that i am leaving , nearly 50% of them says “YES” and will continue their training with me outside the gym .
So i estimated that i will have around 15 clients , train 3 times a week , RM120 per session , in a week i will earn RM5400 in a month i will earn RM21600 !!
IN A MONTH I CAN EARN RM21600 !!
A week before i start my pt business , i contacted those clients that “promise” will support me . GUESS WHAT ?
THEY FFK (did not sign up) ME!
Only 3 of them keep their words and continue their training with me .
So , please remember to collect the training fees first before quitting your job .
So , above are those things that you need to consider before starting up your free lance pt. I hope it helps .
If you have any other suggestion on “things to think about ” before free lancing , feel free to comment below .Cheers .
